Registered families or individuals can access the food bank once a month.  The intent is to offset some of the strain on food budgets as well as to assist with emergency food.

Food Service Hours:

  • Monday - Thursday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
  • Friday 9 a.m. - 12 noon
CLOTHING

“Prior Attire” is our thrift shop that sells good, used clothing & many other household items to the general public. Registered clients can purchase items in the store with store vouchers received monthly with their food visits. More information can be found on prior attire's page by clicking here.

SAVOURY SAMPLES

This program is offered to clients every Monday morning during our food room hours.. Clients are offered to taste a heart healthy recipe. They are then given the recipe with all the ingredients to prepare in their own kitchen.

Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp

Fruit Base
4 cups apples

Topping
2/3 cup large flake oats
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup brown sugar
3/4 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
3 tbsp butter melted

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Peel and slice and place in 8 inch square baking dish
  3. For topping in a medium sized bowl, stir oats with flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Slowly drizzle in butter, stirring with a fork.  Evenly scatter overtop fruit.
  4. Bake, uncovered, in 350F oven until fruit starts to bubble around edges.
  5. Can be served warm or cold with ice cream or yogurt.

Broccoli Salad

Broccoli Salad

Dressing
1 egg
½ c. white sugar
½ tsp. honey
1 tsp. ground mustard
½ tsp corn starch
2 tablespoons Water
2 tablespoons Cider vinegar

Mix all ingredients together and heat on stove until thickened stirring constantly.  Remove from stove and add:

2 tablespoons miracle whip
2 tablespoons sour cream
41/2 tsp. butter or margarine

Cool in fridge for several hours or overnight

Salad Ingredients
4 c. broccoli
1 c. toasted salted cashews
1 c. cubed or grated cheese (Swiss or marble)
1 – 10 oz. can of mandarins (drained)
½ c. diced onions
½ c. raisins
6 strips cooked bacon crumbled

Mix ingredients together add dressing just before serving.

Caramel Rice Pudding

Caramel Rice Pudding

1/2    cup regular rice
2 1/2 cups milk (whole milk is best)
1      tsp. baking soda
little butter
1      scant cup sugar
2      cups water
pinch salt
raisins if desired

Mix together and bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
Stir occasionally.

Five  Cup Salad

Five  Cup Salad

1 cup pineapple tidbits
1 cups cocoanut
1 cup marshmallows
1 cup mandarin sections
1 cup sour cream

Blend together and let stand in refrigerator overnight.

Hummus

Hummus

1    can chick peas, drained
1/4 cup tahini (sesame paste) or peanut butter
1    clove garlic, minced
1/4 cup or more lemon juice
Salt & Pepper to taste

Put all ingredients in food processor & blend - can be made chunky or
smooth, whatever texture you wish.  You can add a little equal or Splenda or sugar for some
sweetness.  For variation, dill or a pinch of cayenne may be added - enjoy!

Spread on crackers, or for a low fat alternative cut up pita bread into wedges and bake in a 350 degree oven for ten minutes or until crisp, can also be used as a filling for sandwiches.  This is a good and economical source of protein.

Kraft Dinner Pizza

Kraft Dinner Pizza

Prepare 1 box of Kraft Dinner add 1 beater egg.

Press onto a greased pizza pan and bake for 5 minutes at 350.

Top with tomato or pizza sauce and your favourite toppings such as pepperoni, green peppers, mushrooms, onion and mozzarella cheese.

Bake an additional 15 minutes.

Tuna Casserole

Tuna Casserole

1 pkg. (14 0z) Kraft dinner (or no name brand dinner)
1 Small can of peas.
½ Cup of chopped onion
½ cup of chopped celery
1 can (6oz.) tuna, drained
1 cup milk
1 cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese
½ cup crushed Ritz crackers
1Tbsp. Butter or Margarine, melted

Prepare Kraft dinner as directed on the package, add vegetables, tuna, milk and cheddar cheese; mix well.
Spoon into greased 1 ½ - quart casserole. Toss cracker crumbs with butter or margarine; sprinkle over casserole.
Bake at 375o F for 20 minutes or until heated through.

Macaroni and Cheese Italian One-Dish Supper

Macaroni and Cheese Italian One-Dish Supper

1 pkg. Macaroni and Cheese Dinner
1 cup chopped pepperoni
1 cup chopped green pepper or celery or both
½ cup chopper onion
1 cup chopper mushroom ( optional)
½ cup pizza or spaghetti sauce
¼ cup grated cheese

  1. Cook macaroni and cheese according to package directions. 
  2. Stir remaining ingredients except cheese into prepared dinner.  Heat through until warm.
  3. Top with cheese.

Pasta Salad

Pasta Salad

3-4 cups cooked pasta
3 cups fresh vegetables – a mix of any of the following:
            broccoli
            Cauliflower
            Onion
Celery
Zucchini
Carrots
Red and green peppers
 Any bottled or home made salad dressing – creamy Italian, Caesar

Can add in – diced cheese, ham, pepperoni, or canned meat

Toss ingredients together and add dressing just before serving

Mexican Corn And Bean Salad

Mexican Corn And Bean Salad

1 can black beans
1 can corn
1 red pepper diced
¾ cup of salsa
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 stalk celery
2 green onions chopped
1 tsp. cumin

Combine all the above ingredients and chill in the refrigerator.
