| GREAT LAKES COMMUNITY GARDEN |
25 plots are available |
Community Gardens spring up in communities all over the province, started mostly by avid gardeners with a little extra time, and a penchant for fresh garden veggies. But what an opportunity for local food banks! |
At their core community gardens are about relationships – relationships with the land, with one’s food, with one’s neighbour, and with one’s community. In our community garden, clients become exposed to positive influences they may not otherwise have been. Gardeners share growing secrets. Parents spend time with their children digging in the earth. Some just come for the peace and quiet that one finds in a community garden. |
And you just can’t beat the taste of a freshly picked tomato or cucumber! |
OTHER BENEFITS OF COMMUNITY GARDENING: |
- Participants become more self sufficient, take pride in their plants and get to know their neighbours.
- Communities save money on groceries while providing healthier food to their families. Produce can also be shared with other people who may need or want healthy food.
- Horticultural therapy alleviates stress, provides exercise and the opportunty for people to connect with nature. By offering a quiet place, a peaceful tranquil environment becomes available to an otherwise noisy busy environment.
